Local Leadership Training Day 2025
Ann Arbor, Michigan – September 2025
On September 7, 2025, Best Buddies Michigan kicked off the school year with its biggest Local Leadership Training Day yet, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor! This annual event brought together student leaders and advisors from school chapters across the state for a day of learning and collaboration, combined with an engaging theme: “Lead in Full Color.”
A total of 40 participants representing 19 chapters and two prospective chapters joined the workshop, setting a new record for Michigan and marking an incredible milestone for our programs. What made this achievement even more special was the number of new chapters represented. Seeing so many first-time leaders show up eager to learn, share ideas, and build friendships highlighted the exciting growth of Best Buddies in Michigan.
The training focused on equipping chapters with the tools they need to lead with confidence. Participants explored best practices for recruitment and events, became more familiar with BB360, and shared strategies for creating strong one-to-one friendships in their schools. Along the way, they had the chance to connect with peers from across Michigan, sparking collaboration and building a supportive community of leaders ready to make a difference.
To capture the spirit of the day, the event carried the theme “Lead in Full Color.” Each participant reflected on their hopes for the year by setting a leadership goal, written on a colorful paint swatch. As a final takeaway, everyone got to make their own bouquet of flowers — a symbol of the bright, bold impact they will bring back to their schools and communities.
Local Leadership Training Day was not only a chance to prepare for the year ahead, but also a celebration of growth, energy, and the power of inclusion. With record participation, Best Buddies Michigan is starting the school year stronger than ever. The future is looking colorful, confident, and full of possibility. We are so thankful for everyone’s participation and continued leadership.
